Assumptions
Gas savings use the user-entered current gas price.
Electric vehicles use a default local blended electricity rate of 0.1312 dollars per kWh based on APS and SRP references.
Plug-in hybrid vehicles use their published combined MPGe value for the operating-cost estimate.
The calculator selects the current vehicle from official U.S. fuel-economy records and decodes the proposed VIN through NHTSA before matching it to U.S. fuel-economy records.
